(The title for the song is the link to it.)
A long time ago my father taught me that we inherited our sinful nature and our guilt from Adam, the first man. As we all naturally do, I did not like the idea. However, I did come across the tune “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” in a book of folk music my father owns — when I was a little older and prepared to admit that perhaps some of what my father thought about God was right after all. So I thought that if I ever was convinced that he was right that we inherited our sinful nature and guilt from Adam, this was the right tune to use to sing about it. I thought it was the sadest tune I could think of. A friend describes it as “haunting”. However, if you sing it in a happy way it still sounds right somehow. Well, I am now convinced that Adam did indeed represent us to God, as our father naturally would, so I wrote this song.
If you are still unsure about Adam representing us before God, do consider reading “The world-tilting Gospel” by Dan Phillips, available from many places, including Amazon, published by kregel. More than that, read Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome (“Romans”, part of the Bible). Chapter five deals with this subject particularly. And it really helps if you understand about families, as does Ephesians chapter five.
