But beauty so great brings peril to me:

God left his mark on what he has made:
Beauty and life in every glade;
Our strength and wisdom — always fall short

God set this mark in what he had made:
Death and destruction creation pervade;
In all of our lives death hovers close by —
But so few of us would even ask ‘Why?’
God’s curse on rebels casts death over all;
Mercy brings comfort to sons of the fall
Repentance and faith don’t lift that curse yet —
But new life in Christ will leave no regret:
