Since You have saved my soul, dear Lord,
Creating me anew
I mourn that I’m still much myself
When I would be like You.
I would not think on evil now
Nor would I muse on sin
But on Thy precious cleansing blood
That washes stain within.
I would not speak unkindly now
Refine my speech, I pray
I would — with grace upon my lips —
A Christ-like love convey.
I would not live for pleasure now
With self my only goal
But joyful rise to do Thy will
To bless another soul.
I would not, O I would not Lord
Disgrace Thy holy name
Deliver me, lest I’m the one
That’s shamed by causing shame.
So keep me clean and close, dear Lord
With Calvary in mind
Until among that heavenly throng
A sinless heart I find.
