Arise my soul, wake up and sing
God’s people meet to praise their king;
His blessings flow in such a place,
Though undeserved we see his face:
With joy we hear his voice.
Arise my soul; I go to hear
My father’s words — their comfort clear —
Or feel the shame of his rebuke
His tender stroke in wisdom dealt:
O listen to his voice!
Take joy, my soul, rejoice and sing;
Bring praise and honour to your king,
In Christ you have his mercy true
In justice bought — not just for you
So hear his kindest voice.
Have comfort in the words of God:
He makes his creatures children too
In Christ we are adopted, true,
Church — siblings now — so listen, do
All hear our father’s voice!
Listen again to God’s dear words
Though heard before, they’ll touch your soul,
Make you like him, stir heart to serve,
Wake memory of his gracious love,
Till heard anew in heaven.
