Complementarity

O God, who did from Adam’s side
Design a helper as his bride –
Lord Yahweh, make us humble to
Fulfil the rôles we’re given by You;
Please give us grace to change our ways
And follow Your plan all our days.

Not made to be a passive man,
But I will lead and serve the clan;
O make me strong to take the strain
Those times that I must take the blame:
For you gave me authority,
But with responsibility.

To help but not control the man
Helping in every way I can
With strength and wise advice to aid
To build the house that we have made,
Respecting him I chose to love,
Submitting as I honour God.

Lord God, You made us love to see
Our friends and be in company;
Give self-control, and servant-hearts
And then, as friends, we’ll hate to part,
Help us to keep our friendships pure
That we can be true friends for e’er.

So if in grace You did create
The one in time to be a mate,
Frustrate the evil in our hearts
Keep envy out and bitter smarts,
May our friends then rejoice with us
That no good thing may fall to dust.
